Windows Common Controls – COMCTL32.OCX, COMCTL32.DLL

Comctl32.ocx, comctl32.dll, mscomctl.ocx, and mscomctl.dll are Windows common controls. Typically they install with Microsoft Visual Basic. They also install with some versions of Visual Studio and Visual C++. These files may have installed with any number of programs written in Visual Basic. While Microsoft no longer supports Visual Basic 6, they've come out with a statement that they intend for any VB program that ran under Windows XP to also run in Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008. You'll find that statement at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/vbrun/ms788708.aspx. Even so, many users report errors involving these files. These may need to be resolved by going to the author of the program that installed these files. If you aren't having problems with these files, we'd reocmmend leaving them alone.
