Multiple Programs - DD.EXE
As you might guess, we found multiple programs using files called dd.exe.
A file called dd.exe installs with DoubeDesktop by Midstream Inc. This handy program lets you create two desktops and makes it easy to toggle between them. More info can be found at http://www.downlinx.com/proghtml/126/12683.htm.
If you have a file called dd.exe located in a folder called c:\Program Files\FSG\DialerDetect\, you have an adware program. FSG is part of the "Gator" suite of badware programs. It is the executable for Gator's "Tickler" module. Trickler inserts a Run key in your Registry so that it is silently and automatically loaded every time you start your computer. Trickler runs hidden and very slowly downloads the rest of Gator/OfferCompanion onto your system. It is suggested that this "trickling" activity is intended to slip under the user's radar, the steady, low usage of bandwidth going unnoticed. We recommend removing this file because it is a security risk. Doing so may cause programs such as "Kazaa" to stop running because they require Gator to be present.
Dd.exe is also a utility you can use to create bootable CD Roms from DOS. More info can be found at http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/. There are also utilities called dd.exe that can be used to capture a drive image. These are often used in forensic work.
A file called dd.exe also installs with "UnixDOS for Windows". More info can be found at http://www.profsoftware.com/unixdos/ud09.htm.
