Multiple Programs – FWUPDATE.EXE

A file called fwupdate.exe is a firmware update. Such a program would be run once to update something like the BIOS for your motherboard or a peripheral device. Typically, once it has run, you shouldn't need it anymore. So if you see this file in your Active Tasks, rebooting may get rid of it. Here are the more common instances of this file we were able to find:

Fwupdate.exe is also a firmware autoupdate utility from LG Electronics. It is used to automate the process of checking for and installing firmware updates for LG CD/DVD reader/writers. If you want this process automated, leave this file in place. If not, it can be removed using WinPatrol or uninstalled via Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. You can check for updates manually at http://us.lge.com/support/download/search.jhtml. Fwupdate.exe is also a BIOS update for the Sony DRX710UL DVD+R Double Layer external DVD Writer. This update resolves some issues with Windows XP SP2 and the USB interface. You'll also want to grab an update called 710A_BYX2.EXE. These can be found on Sony's website at http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-system.pl?DIRECTOR=DRIVER.
