Multiple Programs – HELP.EXE

Help.exe may be part of a help system installed with one of your programs. In this case, the file would be safe to have around but would probably not need to be running all the time. Unfortunately, we found some malicious instances of help.exe.

If you have a file called help.exe in your Windows folder that is described as "MS Scandisk", it's likely that you have the Backdoor.AntiLam.20 virus. This virus can give a remote user access to your computer. More information can be found at http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.antilam.20.html.

Help.exe also installs with a program called ISpy by J.T. Software. This program locks the keystrokes you type at your keyboard. It is safe if intentionally installed. If not intentionally installed, it may be gathering your personal information and sending it to a remote user. This is often done in the hope of getting your passwords or credit card numbers. In this case, it's categorized as Spyware.ISpy and should be removed. More information can be found at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.ispy.html.

Help.exe also installs with the Olehelp variant of CoolWebSearch, with a port scanner classified as the Psyber Trojan, and with the HF (hatred-friend) Trojan.

If you have an adware or virus-related instance of this file, wed recommend removal using WinPatrol. First, kill it under Active Tasks then remove it from your Startup Programs. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click the file then select "Delete file on Reboot". We'd also recommend a full system scan with an up to date antivirus program. If you have CoolWebSearch and are having trouble getting rid of the file, try CoolWebShredder, a free removal tool available at http://www.mysteryware.com.
