HP Parallel Port Test – HPPPTA.EXE

HPPPTA.EXE is installed along with the drivers for many of the HP scanners, printers, or "all in one" printer/scanner/copiers. This file is supposed to check the parallel port to make sure it is in the right mode in the BIOS (either ECP or EPP). If so, the installer runs and sets up your scanner. Once this is done, this file should be removed by the installer. Unfortunately this doesn't happen all of the time. It may also appear as HPPPTA.EXE /ICON.

This file is known to cause problems and eat system resources. In some cases, it may open a blank browser window when you boot your system. If you're experiencing problems, try removing the file using WinPatrol. To get support or to download the latest drivers for your HP scanner, visit http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/eng/support.html.
