Multiple Programs – HTPATCH.EXE

HTPatch.exe is part of the Silicon Integrated Systems AGP patch. This patch is required to support hyperthreading and hyperstreaming functions on Pentium 4 systems with processors by SiS. A description of hyperstreaming can be found at http://www.sis.com/hyperstreaming/index.htm?PHPSESSID=4ec25df320bc30fb24ffb4a3393f51c2">http://www.sis.com/hyperstreaming/index.htm?PHPSESSID=4ec25df320bc30fb24ffb4a3393f51c2.

We've seen reports from users who have removed this patch and reported no ill effects. But it is possible that removal of this file may result in your system running a bit more slowly. So if you opt to disable it, please do so using WinPatrol. That way if you notice a drop in system performance, you can easily re-enable it. If you're not runnin a P4 system, you don't need this patch at all.

HTPatch.exe is also an update for a heating/cooling electrical program called HTools by Elite Software. This patch fixes bugs with the electrical calculation and duct sizing utilities. More information can be found at http://www.elitesoft.com/web/updates/elite_update_list.html.

This file may appear as an active task if you’d installed the patch but haven’t yet rebooted your system. It should be removed upon reboot.

If you don’t run this program by Elite software, HPATCH.EXE could have been placed on your system by the SETI Project. SETI asked for volunteers to donate computer downtime so it could search for extraterrestrial life. More information can be found at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/.
