File Update Notification or Possible Virus– LIVEUPDATE.EXE
I tend to associate LiveUpdate with Symantec's programs. While they do call their automated update process "LiveUpdate", they don't use a file called LIVEUPDAT.EXE for that process.
Older versions of Norton Utilities installed a file called LIVEUPDATE.EXE. Many other authors use programs by that name to deliver updates or to remind customers that updates are availalbe. Generally files such as these can be removed if you don't mind checking for updates manually. A few examples include:
Download Cloak: http://www.insight-concepts.com/products/cloak/.
Wolfie's Den Games: http://www.wolfiesden.com/downloads/images/liveupd.html
Unfortunately, some viruses copy files called "Liveupdate.exe" to your system in the hopes that they'll entice you to run them. Examples of this include:
W32/Pkasa@MM: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99990.htm
W32.HLLW.Indor.E@mm: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.indor.e@mm.html.
W32.HLLW.Indor.B@mm: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.indor.b@mm.html.
If you think you may have a virus, please run and up-to-date version of your antivirus program.
Safe if not a virus
