Presentation Font Cache – PRESENTATIONFONTCACHE.EXE

Presentationfontcache.exe, fontcache.exe and fontcacheservice.exe will install in a folder similar to c:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Windows\v6.0.5070\ (version number may vary). They install with the Avalon framework (now called the Microsoft Windows Presentation foundation for what was codenamed "longhorn" and is now Windows Vista. These files provide caching for the list of fonts that are located in the default font folder, their properties and metrics, the bitmap of common glyph for common fonts at common sizes.

These files can be safely stopped. If you stop the service it will only affect performance where each process will have to do all the rendering instead of relying on the cross process cache.
