Multiple Programs – PREVX.EXE
A file called prevx.exe installs with a program of the same name. Prevx promises to detect, clean, and protect your system from spyware and malware. You'll find more information on the free evaluation version at http://www.prevx.com/freescan.asp. The free version detects malware but doesn't remove it. To remove malware, you'll need to purchase Prevx+ Removal. A Prevx+ Realtime is also available. It offers real time protection. If you intentionally downloaded and installed this program, it can be considered safe.
A file called prevx.exe will be found in your Windows\System or System32 folder. This file is trying to fool you into thinking that it installed with the Prevx security software. In reality, it installs as part of the W32/IRCBot-TF worm. This worm modifies your Windows Registry to run on system startup, reduces your system security, steals personal information, and can allow a remote user to access your system. You'll find more information at http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/w32ircbottf.html. We'd recommend removing this file using WinPatrol. First, kill it under Active Tasks then remove it from your Startup Programs. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click the file then select "Delete file on Reboot". Finally, reboot your system.
