Quickbooks AutoUpdates – QBUPDATE.EXE

To make updates easier, QuickBooks includes an Automatic Update feature. When an important update is available, QuickBooks uses the current Internet connection to download and install the update. Everything happens in the background without disturbing current tasks or slowing down your computer.

As part of the Automatic Update, QBDAgent runs in the background to check Intuit's servers for any new content that should be downloaded. This includes new features, maintenance releases, Payroll, and any other services that you have signed up for. After downloading the content, the Agent installs the download information to the proper place.

When updates are found, the Agent launches QBUpdate.exe which, in turn, downloads and installs content whether QuickBooks is running, or not. Most of the information that is downloaded does not appear in QuickBooks until the program has been exited and restarted.

This file doesn't need to be running all the time. It can be removed or you can turn it off within QuickBooks. Then, to check for updates manually, start Quickbooks, select File then "Update Quickbooks". Finally, select "Update" then "Get Update".

We also found a file called QBUpdate.exe that was an update patch for a program called "Quick Bridge". If you don't have QuickBooks installed, then the file may belong to this program. More information can be found at http://www.quickbridge.com/html/qb_update.html.
