Multiple Program – SCAN.DLL

As you might guess, we found many instances of scan.dll. This is a file name typically in use by Antivirus programs that scan your system for viruses and other threats. It may also be used by any program that scans your system for other reasons such as optimization or registry repair.

Scan.dll installs with BitDefender Antivirus, Internet Security and Total Security. You'll find more information and support at http://www.bitdefender.com/site/KnowledgeBase/showMain/1/.

Scan.dll installs with Avast Antivirus. You'll find more information and support at http://www.avast.com/eng/technical_support.html.

Scan.dll installs with PC Tools Spyware Doctor. You'll find more information at http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/.

Scan.dll also installs with rogue programs called ErrorKiller and System Defender. This program generates a popup telling you that there are infections or problems with your system. These are generally false positives. It then requires you to buy the program to get rid of the so-called problems and other annoying popups the program generates. You'll find more information at http://www.ca.com/us/securityadvisor/pest/pest.aspx?id=453142175. We’d recommend removing this instance of the file using WinPatrol. First, kill it under Active Tasks then remove it from your IE Helpers. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click the file and select “Delete file on Reboot” then reboot your system. Check back to make sure the file is really gone.
