Multiple Programs – SHOWWND.EXE
Showwnd.exe may appear multiple times on your system in your root folder, in your Windows folder, and in your Windows\System or System32 folder. The file may be written as hidden and read-only. This file is categorized as a backdoor trojan as greatis.com. We'd recommend removing this file using WinPatrol. First, kill it under Active Tasks then remove it under your Startup Programs. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click the file then select "Delete file on reboot".
Showwnd.exe, moldedkey.exe and cnyhkey.exe install with many Chicony multimedia or internet programmable keyboards including those that ship with Gateway computers. These files place an icon in your system tray that can be used to configure hotkeys. If you use hotkeys or programmable keys, leave these files in place. If not, you can remove them using WinPatrol. You can also remove chotkey.exe, shotkey.exe or zhotkey.exe if they appear on your system. You can download the latest drivers for your keyboard at http://www.chicony.com/download/kb/top1.asp.
A file by this name may also be a utility that installs with Windows System Programming Secrets by Matt Pietrek. If you're a VB programmer and use this utility, then leave the file in place.
