Multiple Programs – UPDATECHECKER.EXE

Updatechecker.exe is the executable for Update Checker from FileHippo. This program tracks all of the software you have installed. This information is sent to FileHippo.com. If updates to any of your installed programs are found, you're notified and have the option of downloading them. You'll find more information at http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/. Some users report that this file is a massive resource hog. If you find that to be the case, consider using WinPatrol to disable or remove it from your startup programs. Then simply run it manually via Start > Programs or by using the desktop shortcut when you want to check for updates.

Updatechecker.exe also installs with the ActiveClient UpdateChecker from TransActive. By default, this program will automatically run when Windows starts up. It connects to the TransActive server to check whether any updates for the ActiveClient program, or any new lender/product changes, are available. If you prefer, you can use WinPatrol to disable or remove this file in your Startup Programs and can run it manually when needed. You'll find more information at http://www.transactive.com.au/support/update_checker_config.html.

A file called updatechecker.exe also installs with some P2P file sharing services called 4share and Kontiki P2P. We'd recommend removing these instances of this file using WinPatrol.

Because it is a common term, it's possible that there are other programs that use it.
