Safely Remove USB-based Peripherals – USBSAFELYREMOVE.EXE

Usbsafelyremove.exe is the executable for a program of the same name by Steve Bass. Normally if you're working with a USB device such as an external hard drive, you can use the green arrow in your system tray to "safely remove hardware". This tells Windows that the drive is no longer available.

USBSafelyRemove extends this functionality allowing you to stop peripherals via keyboard shortcuts or by running command-line based batch files. It also lets you rename devices and enables/disables the autorun function. You'll find more information at http://safelyremove.com/index.html.

Despite the name, this program works with all Hotplug devices (USB, FireWire, SATA, etc). http://safelyremove.com/en/fullFeaturesList.htm
