Windows XP SP2 Security Center Alerts – WSCNTFY.EXE
Wscntfy.exe installs on your system as part of the Windows XP SP2 Security Center. It places an icon in your system tray that can be used to configure your Security Center options regarding automatic updates, virus protection and Windows firewall settings. This icon will also alert you when updates are available.
This file will be listed as a Startup Program in Microsoft Vista and is loaded by the key ShellServiceObjectDelayLoad.
We'd recommend leaving this file in place simply because it's important to stay current on security-related updates. But ff you find these notifications really annoying, you can stop them by going to Control Panel > Security Center and then unchecking the alerts for updates, firewall and virus protection.
