Windows Update - WUPDMGR.EXE

Wupdmgr.exe launches Windows Update. You can use Windows update to scan for critical updates, security patches, program updates and drivers for your Windows based system. On some systems, this file may run on startup.

A related file, wucrtupd.exe is installed when you install the Windows Critical Update Notification from the Windows Update Web site. By default, it checks for critical updates every 5 minutes. If you don't want this service, it can be uninstalled via Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove programs.

In general, we'd recommend leaving these files in place. If you do opt to remove them, you can check for updates manually by visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.
