Adware Alert – DHTMLCORE.DLL

Files called dhtmlcore.dll, dhtmcore.dll, mimtcore.dll, bvicore.dll, mimecore.dll, clsidcore.dll, mpegcore.dll, javacore.dll, javamcore.dll, dnscore.dll, and msprxcore.dll will appear in your Windows\System or System32 folder. Bvicore may be described as "Media Playback Support Dll. Mimecore may show up as "MIME Plugin Support Dll" and mimtcore may appaer as "MIME Type Support Dll". You may find mpegcore.dll described as "MPEG Support Dll". Clsidcore.dll will appear as "CLSID support Dll". Javacore.dll and javamcore.dll may be described as "JavaPlugin Support Dll" and "Java Machine Support Dll. Dhtmcore.dll and dhtmlcore.dll may appear as "Dhtml Support DLLs". Mxprxcore.dll will be labeled "MSProxy Support Dll" and dnscore.dll will show up as "DNS Resolve Support Dll".

All of these files install as part of the OpenWares ContextuAd adware program. This program displays annoying popup ads and can hijack web searches to its controlling server, currently at contextuad.com.

We'd recommend removing these files using WinPatrol. First, kill them under Active Tasks. If files called dnsproxy.dll, localsplnet.dll, loclspl.dll, msnetwrk.dll, winprox.dll, proxyspd.dll, imgutil32.dll, strad32.dll appear on your system; kill those as well. Next, remove these files from your IE Helpers. If you're running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click each file then select "Delete file on Reboot". Finally, reboot your system.
