Windows XP Help – HELPSVC.EXE

Helpsvc.exe is part of Windows XP home and XP pro. It runs as a service for Windows XP Help and Support. If you remove this file, the Help and Support Center may become unavailable. This file manages updates to the Windows Help Center that are accessed via WindowsUpdate. If this file isn't causing problems, leave it in place. Some users complain that this file eats up 90% of availble CPU time. If this happens on your system, you could disable it using WinPatrol. Go to your Services tab. Make sure "List non-Microsoft services only" is not checked. Double click helpsvc.exe and change the setting from "Automatic" to "Disabled". If problems arise, it can be easily re-enabled.
