Multiple Programs – PROTECTOR.EXE

Protector.exe installs with Spy Catcher, a popular anti-spyware program by Tenebril Software. A file called scactiveblock.exe may also appear on your system. These files prevent rogue programs from sending personal information to a remote user via the Internet. If you use Spy Catcher with real time scanning, you'll want to leave this file in place. You'll find more info and support at http://www.tenebril.com/products/ghostsurf/spycatcher.html.

Protector.exe installs with TCPIP Protector by Adrian Roni Havas. You'll probably find the file in your c:\Program Files\har\protectorpro\ folder. While this is a legitimate tool, it's gained some popularity as a hacking tool used by people who want to get into your computer. If you installed this program intentionally, leave it alone. If you don't know what it's doing on your system, we'd recommend using WinPatrol to remove it. First, kill it under Active Tasks. If a file called inst.exe is running, kill that as well. Next, remove these files from your Startup Programs.

Protector.exe also installs with Troj/Small-CN. This virus can download and install other programs and can upgrade its own code. We'd recommend removing this file using WinPatrol and doing a full system scan with an up to date antivirus program. Additional background info can be found at www.sophos.com/virusinfo/analyses/trojsmallcn.html.

Because protector.exe is a fairly common name, there may be other programs using it.
