Adware Alert – RICHEDTR.DLL
Richedtr.dll will appear in your Windows\System or System32 folder. You may see it described as "RichEditor Class". This file actually installs with a variant of the SafeSurfing adware program by MediaUpdate. This program claims to stop popup ads. In reality, it creates them. This program monitors pages that you visit and redirects you to advertisements.
We'd recommend using WinPatrol to remove it. First, kill it under Active Tasks. If files called regsync.exe, vbuninstall.exe, vbrundll.dll, ssurf022.dll, ssupdate.exe, imwire28.dll, imwire29.dll, or rsyncmon.exe appear there, kill those as well. Next, remove these files from your Startup Programs and IE Helpers. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later; right click each file then select "Delete file on Reboot". Finally, reboot your system.
Additional background information on SafeSurfing can be found at http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/MediaUpdate.html.
