Multiple Programs – SHELLHOOK.DLL

We found multiple programs using a file called shellhook.dll.
Shellhook.dll is the Shell Guard that installs with Ewido Security Suite. Consequently, this file will be found in your c:\Program Files\ewido\security suite folder. This program promises to protect you from hackers, spyware, worms, dialers, trojans, and key loggers. More information can be found at http://www.ewido.net/en/. If you want the protection this program offers, leave this file in place.

Shellhook.dll also installs with GeoShell, a replacement shell for Windows. This program replaces your start menu, taskbar, system tray and desktop. It also has plug-ins for rss readers, weather forecasts, mail checkers, web search bars, and virtual desktops. More information can be found at http://www.geoshell.com/. If you use this program, leave this file in place. Removing it will result in your reverting back to the standard Windows shell.

Shellhook.dll installs with Net2Phone, a program that enables you to make long distance calls over the Internet either to another PC or to a phone number. Executables called net2phone.exe or net2fone.exe may also appear on your system. More info is available at http://web.net2phone.com/home_usen.asp. This file should only need to be running when Net2Phone is running.

Shellhook.dll installs with the Serenade Shell Tool. Serenade is similar to Geoshell in that it replaces the standard Windows Shell and allows for multiple, virtual desktops. More information can be found at http://www.courtah.net/about/FAQ/GeneralQuestions/WhatisSerenade. As with Geoshell, this file must be left in place.

Shellhook.dll installs with Bitlogic Software's TCPShellhook, a global shell and window hook DLL. More information can be found at http://www.bitlogic.co.uk/products_borland_tcpshellhook.htm.

Because this is a common name, other programs may be using it.
