Adware Alert – MEDIAPASS.EXE

A file called mediapass.exe may appear in your c:\program files\media pass\ folder. The program is described as follows: "Media Pass is free ad delivery software which provides targeted advertising offers". This program can stealth install and can download content from the web and can display popup ads. It sets itself up to run on system startup and can allocate all available system resources to itself resulting in slowing your computer to a crawl.

Users also report that the uninstaller for this program doesn't really get rid of it. So we'd recommend removing this file using WinPatrol.

Go to your Active Tasks tab and kill the file there. If files called mediapassx.exe, mediapassk.exe, loaderx.exe, salm.exe, and queplay.exe appear there, kill those as well. This program can also generate random filenames. So be on the looking for files with names that seem to be made up of random letters or numbers. You'll want to remove those as well. Next, remove these files from your Startup Programs and IE Helpers. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click each file then select "Delete file on reboot" then reboot your system. Once you've verified that this file is no longer running, you'll want to delete the contents of your c:\Program Files\Media Pass\ folder.
