Multiple Programs – CDPLAYER.EXE

CDplayer.exe was the original CD player that installed with Windows 95 and 98. It was replaced by the Microsoft Media Player and then Windows Media Player. If you use WinPatrol 10.x or later, you may see "cdplayer.exe" or "cdplayer.exe.manifest" in your hidden files. This file is safe but not required if you have Windows Media Player installed. More info can be found at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=304798.

CDPlayer.exe is also a name used by the drivers for BCD CDRom Drives and IOmega Jazz Drives. Unfortunately, cdplayer.exe is also the name used by a number of viruses. These files are not related to the drivers or to Microsoft's player. Viruses that install a file by this name include:
Vbs.annod, vbs.annod.b, and vbs.annod.c - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/vbs.annod.html .

Bat.Install.Trojan - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/ bat.install.trojan.html.

W32.Collo - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.collo.html.

W32.Ramlide - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/ w32.ramlide.html.

W95.Bistro - http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/ w95.bistro.html.

If you have one of these viruses, we'd recommend removing this file using WinPatrol. We'd also recommend a full system scan with an up to date antivirus program.
