Microsoft Configuration Manager - MSCONFIG.EXE

MSConfig is a handy utility that typically comes on all Windows systems. This program provides some of the functionality of WinPatrol but does in terms of seeing which programs are running on system startup and opting to disable them. But it doesn't monitor your system like Scotty does.

When msconfig.exe is run with the /auto switch, you get a message telling you that you're running the msconfig system configuration utility in selective startup mode. That message will be displayed each time you start Windows. To get rid of that message, rerun MSConfig and select "General Startup Mode" on the "General" tab. You'll find more information at http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/msconfig_usage.mspx?mfr=true.

When msconfig.exe is run with the /reminder switch, you get a reminder to reboot your system upon exiting from MSConfig. You will be given the option to exit without rebooting if you wish to do so.
