Multiple Programs – RECGUARD.EXE

Recguard.exe installs as part of Startup Manager. Startup Manager is a little utility that lets you have control on applications run at Windows 9x startup. Because it is explicitely designed to optimize Windows 9x startup, it can be used only under Windows 95 or Windows 98. Startup Manager can collect information from your system registry, Win.ini file and the Startup folder in your Start Menu and take all programs run at Windows startup in its own queue. More info can be found at http://digilander.libero.it/DigitalThings/startman.html.

Because you're running WinPatrol, you may not need this program. As you know, WinPatrol gives you complete control over startup programs, active tasks, browser helpers, and more.

Recguard.exe comes installed on some HP and Gateway systems. This program makes it impossible to delete the Windows XP Recovery partition. If you like this sort of protection, leave the file in place. If it's causing system slowness or eating up resources, you might consider removing it. More information can be found at http://www.hp.com.

Recguard.exe also installs with Sendmail. This instance of the file will appear in a sminst folder. This Windows version of the Unix Sendmail program allows sending of messages from the command line, CGI script or batch file. Allows easy migration of perl scripts from Unix to Windows since it uses the same simple interface as the Unix Sendmail. It can be easily integrated with your website, or commercial application.
