Windows Command Prompt - CMD

CMD.EXE is the Microsoft Windows Command Prompt. Unlike the old command.com, cmd.exe is a 32bit command prompt used in WinNT/2000/XP.

When you run CMD.EXE, you shell out of the Windows GUI to a command promt where you can type predetermined commands. Old timers may still refer to this the "DOS Prompt". Even if you don’t use this feature, it’s best to leave it alone.
