McAfee VirusScan - SHSTAT.EXE

SHSTAT.EXE installs with McAfee VirusScan and McAfee NetShield. The SHSTAT.EXE component of Virus Scan that launches when a user logs on attempts to access the registry with too high a permission. This program is run automatically when VirusScan starts. A /NOSPLASH switch can be used to supress display of the McAfee splashscreen. A /STANDALONE switch can be used to run independently of VirusScan.

This file has been blamed for system instability and crashes. But unless you think it's causing you problems, we'd recommend leaving it in place to protect access to your Windows registry.
