Windows NT/2000/XP Logon Application - WINLOGON.EXE
Winlogon.exe installs with Windows NT4.x, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. This process manages users' logons and logoffs on your PC/Server. WinLogon is part of the Windows boot sequence and begins when the system switches to a graphics mode. It starts the Services subsystem, services.exe. WinLogon is also a part of the shutdown sequence and helps remove programs which do not exit properly. This is required by your windows operating system so please leave this file in place.

Virus Alert - WINLOGON.SCR
Winlogon.scr is a program that you don't want running on your system. It installs as part of the W32/Rbot-ALP worm. This worm can reduce system security, turn off antivirus applications, download code from the Internet, record keystrokes, and can allow a remote user to access your system. More information can be found at http://www.sophos.com/security/analyses/w32rbotalp.html.
We'd recommend removing winlogon.scr using WinPatrol. Please do NOT remove Winlogon.exe as that file is required by Windows. First, go to your Active Tasks and kill winlogon.scr there. Next, remove it from your Startup Programs or Hidden Files (WinPatrol 10.x or later) if it appears there. If running WinPatrol 8.x or later, right click the file and select "Delete file on Reboot" then reboot your system.
