Multiple Programs – CLIENT.EXE

We found multiple programs with files called "client.exe".

Client.exe installs with Canweb's dynamic DNS software called DynIP. It assigns a static name to a dynamic IP address. It is described as follows: "DynIP supports various connection types such as dial-up, cable modem, wireless, DSL and LAN and can be used with most common routers and firewalls. Use an Internet Name instead of static IP address for Virtual Private Networks (VPN), web/security cameras, remote access applications, mail servers and more."

More info can be found at http://www.softpile.com/Internet/Dialup_and_Connection/Review_16959_index.html. If you use this type of IP address handling, leave this file in place.

If you see client.exe on your system and also files named konfig163.exe, konfig165a.exe, ruler141.exe, and serv141.exe; we'd recommend removing all of these files. They probably installed on your system as part of the Backdoor RTB virus that allows others to remotely control your system.

A file called client.exe is a patch for a program called ACDual Client. More info can be found at http://acdualclient.drakier.com/.

Client.exe also installs with DigiGuide by Gypsy Media. DigiGuide is a TV and radio guide for the UK that allows you to search, organise and get reminders for your favourite programmes without ever opening a web browser. You'll find more information at http://www.digiguide.com/.

Webopedia defines client as follows: The client part of a client-server architecture. Typically, a client is an application that runs on a personal computer or workstation and relies on a server to perform some operations. Because it is such a common name in computer networking and the internet, it is likely that there are other programs using it.
