Windows Hibernation – HIBERFIL.SYS
Hiberfil.sys will appear in the root folder of your hard drive, usually c:\. This file is part of your Windows XP operating system. It supports the "Hibernate" feature. Some people use this feature to save power while not using the computer. Hibernation takes everything currently in memory and writes it to the file called hyberfil.sys. If you use WinPatrol 10.x or later, this file will appear in your list of Hidden Files. This is normal.
If you don't use this feature, we'd recommend using this method to get rid of the file: Go to Control Panel, click "Power Options". Select the "Hybernate" tab. De-select 'Enable Hibernate Support'. Click the Apply button. As soon as you restart your computer, the hiberfile.sys file will be gone.
