TCP/IP Utility – HOSTNAME.EXE

Most commonly, hostname.exe installs with a utility of the same name by SysInternals (now owned by Microsoft). This simply utility that takes either an IP address (e.g. 123.456.7.8), or a host name (e.g. ftp.ntinternals.com), and performs a translation into its inverse form. For example, if you pass Hostname an IP address, you'll get back a host name, and if you pass it a host name it will give you the corresponding IP address. You'll find more information at http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/hostname.html. This file doesn't need to be running all the time.

Hostname.exe is also a similar TCP/IP utility included in a number of Microsoft products including Windows XP Embedded SP2 Feature Pack. You'll find more information at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Aa940250.aspx.
