If you've never heard of this before but you regularly steam audio/video content, it's possible that the streaming media provider uses it. This file also installs with the Akamai Download Manager.

If installed in c:\program files... or under a folder "My Files" it is probably safe. Safe if Intentionally Installed

Important: Some malware camouflages itself as netsession_win.exe, particularly when located in the C:\Windows or C:\Windows\System32 folder. Therefore, you should check the netsession_win.exe process on your PC to see if it is a threat. If installed in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32, it is probably not safe and you should either run a virus scan or submit the file to Virus Total to determine whether or not the file is safe.
