Microsoft WordPad – WORDPAD.EXE

Wordpad.exe is the executable for Microsoft's WordPad. This mini-word processor comes installed as part of Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 and XP. You can use it to open Microsoft Word .doc files, Rich Text .rtf files, Windows Write .wri files, and text .txt files. You can use it to save .rtf and .txt files.

You'll find WordPad by going to Start > Programs > Accessories. It doesn't need to run on system startup or to be left running all the time. It can be launched manually when needed.
