Windows Media Player - WMPLAYER.EXE
Wmplayer.exe is the executable used to run the Windows Media Player. The Windows Media Player comes pre-installed as part of your Windows operating system. It is used to play all types of audio and video files. Newer version can be used to burn CDs and DVDs.
You do not have to have this file running all the time. You can start it when you need it using the Desktop icon or via Start > Programs. If your audio and video file formats are setup to use WMP, you can launch it by clicking on an audio or video file.

You can create and share your own streaming audio/video using the Windows Media Encoder. This free companion program to Windows Media Player can also be used to convert between popular audio file formats such as mp3 and wma. You can download the program at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx. Don't worry if the version number for Windows Media Encoder doesn't match the version of Windows Media Player. WME generally lags a version behind WMP.
