Thanks to feedback from all our members we're releasing a maintenance release version of WinPatrol 10. Upgrading to 10.0.5 is not required unless you have experienced problems addressed in the list below.

  • WinPatrol registry functions enhanced to handle over-zealous registry cleaners.
    Improper use of Registry Cleaners can cause Scotty to repeatedly ask permission for system changes.

  • Build Tools updated to Microsoft Visual Studios 2005.
    In theory, this shouldn't break anything. Adds a few KB to the program size but so far benchmarks indicate faster performance.

  • PLUS Tab Search available on Free versions to support future promotions.
    When you click on the PLUS tab there's a input box that allows you to search on any program name. This is now displayed on Free versions so it will be available in the future.

  • Our alternate Installshield Setup program is now used as our default setup. This version is slightly larger than our original default setup but is more compatible with newer systems.

Revision indicates some changes to fix bugs and minor enhancements as requested. Upgrade recommended if specific error is addressed

  • Bug: Fixed issue with Info dialog when not using the default 96 DPI display property
  • Bug: Buffer Overflow crash may occur when using "Delete on Reboot"
  • Feature Request: Added -NoOpen parameter to WinPatrol.exe. Normally, running WinPatrol.exe a 2nd time will launch the tabbed interface, WinPatrolEx.exe. Using user controled process launchers such as Sudo for Windows can cause the interface to open when launching a 2nd WinPatrol process. Adding -NoOpen to WinPatrol will resolve this issue.
Major WinPatrol 10 Innovations
    Hidden Icon   Hidden Files
    Scotty can now be set to monitor Hidden files in critical system areas. A new list of Hidden Files is available to help you clean up your machine. Almost all new infiltrations and/or root kits will attempt hiding their files but Scotty can detect them in real-time before any serious danger can be done. While many hidden files are normal system files, the introduction of new hidden files should be questioned. Now it can be.  The ability to delete hidden files will allow proper system cleanup. Right-click on the hidden file to view or delete.

    Task Icon   Date & Time Program First Detected
    Ever wonder when a new file was first introduced to your system?
    WinPatrol 10 detects and records the introduction of new program files and malware infiltrations. This new feature will allow you to detect files which have all infiltrated your system at the same time. Even if they have random file names or file names matching legitimate files you can sort files by Date Detected and Kill them all at once.

    File Type Icon   Lock File Type Associations
    This checkbox on the Options tab will allow you to keep your desired File Type associations settings without being annoyed by persistent programs.  Scotty will automatically restore your original settings.

    PLUS Icon   More Secret Startup Locations including WinLogon/Notify
    WinPatrol PLUS now monitors even more non-tradition Startup locations found in the registry. Disable unwanted programs including the Windows Genuine Advantage.

  • Upgrading from previous WinPatrol PLUS version?
      Exit your current WinPatrol before running the new wpsetup.exe!
      Download wpsetup.exe
      We recommend you install this new version in the same folder you're currently using and preserve your settings. Depending on your current version, WinPatrol will automatically detect that you're a PLUS member. If you do need your registration number just Email support@winpatrol.com and include the name you used to register.
