WinPatrol 2012

New WinPatrol 24.6.2012
April 15th, 2012

One of the major complaints with the last versions of WinPatrol has been the option to automatically run WinPatrol on startup. We narrowed down the code where Windows 64 was redirecting the location used to auto run WinPatrol. The checkbox found in the Options tab will now maintain its status as it always has.
This "Automatically run WinPatrol..." option controls the small monitor component of WinPatrol that detects changes without slowing you down. Most people who had problems will be happy that Scotty will always on patrol again. Many others use the WinPatrol Explorer tabbed interface but have other programs they prefer as a heuristic monitor. This will work tor them as well

A number of XP users had reported problems which have been tracked down to the use of newer development tools. While our only XP machine won't accept the SP3 update our XP SP3 emulator is now much happier with this new version. I'll continue to work with any XP SP3 users who report problems.
I had also neglected special features available to Windows 64 bit XP users. This configuration is apparently more popular than our stats indicated.

My goal continues to try supporting every version of Windows available with a single code base. Next stop Windows 8!

New WinPatrol 24.5.2012
March 25th, 2012

Build 24.5 has some changes in both WinPatrol and our installation program. This version addresses two major reports. One relates to WinPatrol crashing for no obvious reason. The other report is that WinPatrol wasn't always running when the computer started.

Our previous version also had more than its share of trouble trying to "Kill" programs that were running. Thanks to the Microsoft engineers who offered tips at our recent Most Valuable Professional summit.

New WinPatrol 24.3.2012
February 24th, 2012

I once wrote about how Windows versions are like snowflakes. These days there are so many versions, so many service packs and so many bad acting applications it’s almost impossible test new software. Add to this all the changes made for 64 bit machines and problems grow exponentially.

The release of WinPatrol 2012 has been fairly smooth but a handful of regular WinPatrol users have reported some bizarre behavior. Some reports made no sense at all. In hopes of continuing a single version of WinPatrol I’ve consulted with some great minds at Microsoft and this version has resulted in many suggested changes.

Since most changes are technical I won’t go into the internal updates that occurred. One change was to remove some of my assembler/machine code which was useless on 64 bit versions of Windows. The Microsoft C compiler has continued to optimize our monitoring code so tests show our real-time monitoring continues to be faster than any other malware monitor on the market

My plan is to continue making improvements to WinPatrol and hopefully all my future Emails will be requests for lost PLUS codes and not bug reports. I will be spending next week in Redmond continuing to receive assistance from the experts at Microsoft. I’m sure it will be a productive week  for all WinPatrol and security minded fans.

Installation is recommended right over your current WinPatrol in the default folder. No Uninstall of previous version necessary.

    WinPatrol 2012 Update 1 1

    Version 24.1.2012.0 - January 30th, 2012

  • Delayed Start
While not everyone had the same experience some folks reported that Delayed Start was no longer working with WinPatrol 2012
This update will resolve this error and give back one of your favorite features.

  • Hidden Files 64 bit
This update also helps fix a bug in the display of hidden files on 64 bit versions of Windows. It doesn't affect any other versions and has no impact unless you're using Windows 64 bit version. You'll know you have Windows 64 bit if you notice the you have both a Program Files folder and one called Program Files (x86).

  • Performance - You’ll Love it
First and foremost I’ve been working on making WinPatrol robust and hidden away so under normal circumstances you’ll never know its running. Based on your feedback, I’ve concentrated on making sure WinPatrol works with other security programs. Our research shows that most of you tend to run at least two anti-Virus/Malware programs along with WinPatrol. Many experts will recommend against more than one program but WinPatrol doesn’t work like other malware monitors. It runs great along with other programs. Many Anti-Virus companies may disagree and their support reps will recommend you remove WinPatrol. They haven’t tested with WinPatrol, we have. If a program removes or quarantines WinPatrol just reinstall our setup program. It’s still a quick, easy download.

  • Cookies – Filter out Bad Cookies Automatically.
Earlier this year Microsoft updated how they name cookie files. They now use random file names but they’re still just unencrypted text files. You can “click here” to read why they decided to make this change. Its makes some sense but broke how WinPatrol manages and filters bad cookies. If you’ve received the update from Microsoft the WinPatrol cookie manager for Internet Explorer will be broken and look like this.

Now WinPatrol 2012 will provide a fix and provides even better information about your cookies.

  • Localization Fix – 64 bit versions
I’m not a big fan of Windows 64 bit OS and our language service packs broke using Windows 64 bit. I’ve fixed this bug and look forward to showing our international friends how much we respect them by releasing new versions of our local versions. Our language packs are created by volunteers and I couldn’t think them enough.

  • WinPatrol Enterprise – Now Available for Small Business
Most users don’t realize there is a version of WinPatrol designed for large companies with over 100 employees. One of the main features of Enterprise is centralized administration. When a change is detected instead of the user being notified, an Email is generated and sent to a main administrator. WinPatrol 2012 Small Business is a special partnership now available for 10 systems and one administrator for $179 USD. You can order via our online store and your small business key will be sent within 2-3 business days.
